Obituary of Victoria Fitch Darcy
Victoria (Vickie) Fitch Darcy, 64, passed away peacefully Tuesday night at the Webster home of her and husband John after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Vickie and John were high school sweethearts, married in 1982, and have called the Rochester, NY area home for over 40 years of marriage.
Vickie, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, attended Allendale Columbia in Rochester and then graduated from RIT in 1982. She then went on to work at the National Institute for the Deaf at RIT for thirty-nine years until her recent retirement.
Not only did Vickie and John meet in their teens, but they grew and thrived together, spurred on by the shared interest and passion for so many activities and hobbies. She had two places on Earth that brought her great joy – the cottage on Round Island and the mountains of Colorado. It was at these two locations, much like her father Julian, whether adventuring along the 1,000 Islands or skiing in the Rockies, Vickie was in her element and at her happiest. She cherished the memories created in these environments and leaves behind a treasure trove of stories shared with many to remember her by.
In addition to her husband John, Vickie is survived by two children, Julia Moscaritolo (Steve), and Sean Darcy (Ashley), and three grandchildren, Anthony, Jackson, and Marin. She was predeceased by her parents, Julian and Margie Fitch.
Four older Fitch sisters and their families survive Vickie - Stephanie McMahon (Greg), with Tyler and Leigh; Wendy Matthews (George), with Chris and David; Debbie Fitch; Linda Mavity (Bill), with Allison, Amelia and Stewart, as well as her devoted cousin Geoffrey Fitch (Kathy), with Jennifer, Emily, Katie, and Matthew; plus, the many caring spouses and children to the aforementioned nieces and nephews, and of course the entirety of the Darcy family, of which Vickie had been a part of for so long.
Vickie knew she was blessed to have the love and support of an amazing collection of close and loyal friends, many of which were from grade school, and the happiness she found by seeing them in her final months and weeks brought her tremendous peace. The phone and facetime calls, letters, cards, and visits Vickie received during the final weeks of her life were a tremendous source of joy and comfort to her.
