Obituary of Roberta "Bobbie" Mazzochetti
Born Roberta Eleanor Schlicker on November 12, 1935, "Bobbie" died quietly on April 23, 2023 at 87 years old after a year-long ordeal with lung cancer. She spent the last several years with severe arthritic back pain and a limp from a previously fractured hip. She suffered each day but was positive, persevered, and enjoyed visitors.
She was raised in Rochester NY, attended St Francis Xavier Church receiving her sacraments, and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1953.
That summer she married our father, Joseph Mazzochetti, who died suddenly in 1992, being a widow for a long time, and always loved him. Her parents were Rollin Schlicker and Clotilda Margaret Orsini. She is predeceased by her brother, Rollin. She is also predeceased by her long-time companion, Floyd Clawson. She is survived by her beloved children: Michael (Nancy) Mazzochetti, David (Corinne) Mazzochetti, and Debra (Michael) Robison. As "Granny" she is also survived by grandchildren Dion (Elaina), Kyle, Luke (Kathleen), Alexander, James (Jack), Benjamin, and Natalie, and 2 great grandchildren, Marne and Paul. Survived also by a good friend and helper, Debbie Becker.
Our home was the center of comfortable gathering for family and friends spanning 3 generations - offering her gift of hospitality "to drop in as you are"! She always had coffee and dessert available for a visit while also hosting many events preparing delicious meals. She was very compassionate, worried about others, and prayed to the dear Lord for his assistance with all her concerns.
Everyone who visited through the years enjoyed relaxed and warm conversation - entertaining all with her humor, wit, "street smarts", and family stories, sprinkled with some light swearing. A fun character yet strong-willed, she was honest, humble, and loyal. She was thrifty for her own needs but generous with others. She was feisty with strong values, a sense of independence, and fairness for the "little guy". She grumbled a little and loved a lot!
Bobbie touched so many lives of all ages - right in her own home! May she rest in God's love and peace.
Please make any donations in her honor to Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua.
We celebrate her life with a Funeral Mass at Church of the Annunciation ("an old traditional neighborhood church") at 1760 Norton Street on Friday May 12th at 10:30 am. Please join us, including a gathering afterwards in the church hall.
