Obituary of Stephen Eugene Tunney

Stephen E. Tunney, 73, passed away at home in Penfield on January 23, 2021. He previously lived in Pittsford for over 30 years.

He is survived by his daughters Lindsay (Sean) Riley, Chelsey Tunney and Amy (Tom) Ioele; his brother Ronald Tunney and Jackie Patanella; his sister Cindi (Phil) Bushallow; his partner of the last several years, Gloria Apostolou; the mother of his children, Carol Tunney; and extended family.  

Steve was born in Geneva and grew up in Auburn.  He served for 6 years in the Navy and was stationed on submarines throughout his service.  After his time in the military, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.  He also earned a master’s degree in Management Science from Nazareth College. Steve had a long and successful career in telecommunications as a sales executive, most notably at Data General, AT&T and Frontier.  He later established his own consulting firm.     

Steve was a proud father.  He dearly loved his family and those who were close to him.  He will be greatly missed.

The family delayed services earlier this year due to COVID.  They invite anyone who wishes to pay their respects to join them for a celebration of Steve’s life on Saturday, August 14 from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Brody’s on the Bay, 1400 Empire Blvd, in Webster.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve’s name to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which supports veterans.
