These memories were shared by all of Mom's family at her funeral service on January 14, 2021.
It’s hard to wrap up 95 years in a few sentences. I have so many cherished memories of my mom. Mom was all about family. She loved her family unconditionally and you could see her eyes light up when she spoke about us.
Travel, vacations, camping and bowling tournament weekends will always be favorite memories for me. Especially the time we went to Florida and she surprised Grandma Paratore. When Grandma saw mom, she screamed so loud we thought she was going to have a heart attack! I’ll bet she is so happy to be with you again and hugging you right now!
Sunday dinners for sauce were always at Mom’s. Followed by gin rummy, swimming in the pool all afternoon and then grilling out hots for supper. She always enjoyed having her whole family together.
One time we all went to Darien Lake and we took her on the log flume ride and we told her it was just a boat ride. When we got off, she was laughing so hard that she had to wear a sweater around her waist the rest of the day!
She loved music and always spoke of how her and her sister, Annie, used to always sing together growing up. And how her and her brother, Jim, used to call each other and confer about different songs. She enjoyed playing her keyboard and got such enjoyment playing for others especially little performances she would put on for the residents at the Legacy. At get togethers, if there was a piano, she was sure to be playing and having everyone singing along.
She developed macular degeneration which made it difficult for her to do things she loved, reading, playing cards, bingo and puzzles all became too difficult to do but she always said no matter what happened to her vision, she could always play the keyboard with her eyes closed.
I’d laugh when she’d say that most of the residents where she lived were old (her being in her 90’s at the time).
She always said that, no matter what, she wanted her family to remain close. That was very important to her. She would always say to overlook things. I will miss her advice, our daily talks, her smile, her enjoyment seeing her great grandkids and her unconditional love. Love and miss you always, Mom. Your daughter, Diane

My memory of Mom is simple, her devotion and her deep love for her family. ~ Anne
------------------------------------------
Loving, caring, always enjoyed her family and I couldn’t ask for a better mother-in-law, since I was her favorite son-in-law.~ Fred
-------------------------------------------
At this time, I can only pray that I was as good of a son to her as she was a mother to me, and that she was as proud to call me her son as I was to call her my mother She was as beautiful a person on the inside as she was on the outside. While we were separated, I would tell her “I love you, Mom” and she would say “I love you, Bob”. I would come back with but “I love you more”. But she would end with her little tune “I love you, a bushel and a peck”. Oh to hear her sing to me just one more time. ~ Bob

One of my earliest memories of Great Grandma involved swimming in what seemed like a huge pool at the young age I was. I remember everyone always sitting around the pool or swimming with us kids, using the slide and diving board. Great Grandma was always around the pool smiling. As I got older, she had us over for “lunch dates” which involved piano playing, puzzles and lunch. She would always have Great Grandpa clean up our mess so we could have more time to play the piano. Once again, I remember her always smiling watching us. During Sunday dinners, Great Grandma would always be right in the middle of us all, listening and enjoying the family. She, again, would always be smiling. As I grew older, I realized that Great Grandma was always smiling because she was enjoying the little moments and time with the family. I learned from watching her smiling at every family gathering we had, to enjoy it, no matter how crazy or loud that time was, because life is about those small moments. ~ Kayleen

Dear Grandma Rose,
I miss you with all of my heart and couldn’t bear to hear it when I found out that you passed away. I feel like I am missing half of myself without you. At least you get to go see and be with Grandpa Babe in Heaven. I remember when I would see you at Mima and Pop’s house and we would play card games and draw together. I will really miss doing those things with you. I will never forget you and you will always be in my heart. I am getting better at drawing and will make you proud. I will see you again someday in Heaven. I love you so much. ~ Gabriella
-----------------------------------------
I’ll never forget how excited grandma was when she found out I started playing the trumpet. I was in the 4th grade and not very good, but grandma always asked me about it anyway. We would talk about what songs I was learning or what the band was playing at school. And every time she would say she was going to bring her keyboard and we could play songs together.
I remember eventually going over to her house and putting together my trumpet while she warmed up. Grandpa sitting in his chair watching TV in the other room. She set up her recorder and we played our instruments - me on the trumpet, her on the keyboard. We made music together for hours.
Growing up, there were always different phases when it came to spending time with grandma - the music phase, the puzzle phase, the baking phase. And whether it was playing dominos or beating everyone at ladder golf, she always did it with kindness. But to grandma they weren’t phases. She was just sharing what she loved, with the people she loved, and that’s what made her happy.
Grandma was always looking for ways to spend time with her family. Her love for everyone was apparent, and strong. Her happiness was contagious. Her presence felt. She loved everything about this family, and this family will forever miss her. ~ Jaycee
-----------------------------------------
Pick one memory of Great Grandma? I can’t. Her memory will always be many special things to me. Sunday dinners with homemade everything. Piano playing at any family event. Stories of when she and Grandpa met or of her and Auntie as little girls. Birthday calls to sing you your very own birthday song.
Pizelles with perfect edges because she always trimmed them when they were still warm. Card games and puzzles. Bocce, or any other yard game, even when she was 90. Her amazing love for Grandpa. Her joy when seeing her grandkids. Grandma had a zest for enjoying life that many of us never find and that I will remember most. ~ Cathi

Rose, Ro, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and, of course, Murphy who could forget that one! Not sure why Grandpa called her that, but I always found it kind of cute. She was someone to everyone and we were everything to her. Grandma lived for her family, it sounds like a common theme, but it was true. Trying to sum up almost 50 years of Grandma is tough to do because she was an everyday fixture in my life growing up. Grandma lived for our family get-togethers. Whether Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter you could always count on a four course meal. Homemade soup, ravioli, or whatever she cooked up, and you always knew it was going to be great. Right down to the dessert with the vanilla sundae's with that mint green syrup she always had, never really sure what that was, but we always ate it. Then there were the summers, countless summer vacations that were spent at the pool, countless sleep overs with Tony and me. Grandma always made Grandpa open up the pool at night, which at that time, always seemed way past our bedtime, just so we could go swimming at dark. She really didn't make him; he enjoyed it as much as she did. As for the pool. I can still picture Grandma with her big sunglasses on, usually some type of hat on to keep the sun out of her eyes playing Gin at the table by the pool. Oh did she love having all her kids and grandkids around the pool! Nothing made her smile more than seeing all the kids having fun. Running around the pool, going off the diving board and hitting the slide.
We played many games of Gin over the years. Somehow she always won; I think she could actually count cards. That was Grandma, she had a knack for winning and that carried over into her life. God forbid you played her in Bocce or Lawn Jarts! You could be ahead in Jarts and she would drop 7 points and beat you, then give you her little laugh and always a smile, like she was saying "nice try kid". Like Grandpa she never missed a game, Grandpa was always carrying the chairs because grandma had made the big bag of popcorn that she was carrying. Not really sure how much popcorn she ate, but maybe that was her secret to good living. I always wondered what it was like for her when the entire family got together, to look around and see her kids, her five grandkids and her twelve grandchildren. Being there and seeing all she created is what kept her going, it's not only what she lived for, it's what she fought for. We love you Grandma, now go and rest, you have earned it. ~ Bobby

I will remember Grandma Rose for how much she loved music and to sing. I remember Grandma Rose teaching me the dance to the song “This Old Man”. I will remember Grandma for how she loved to play the piano and how much fun I had dancing with my cousins at her winter concerts watching her play. ~ Melanie
--------------------------------------------
I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, a hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap, a barrel and a heap and I’m talkin’ in my sleep about you. Poo poo pee do! ~ Leo
----------------------------------------
I will always remember Grandma for her love of family and the values that she passed on to each and every one of us. Growing up Grandma’s house was a second home – from Sunday dinners to weekdays at Grandma’s during the summer. I am extremely lucky to have so many great memories with my Grandma – playing cards in the porch, bowling at North Park & Redman’s Club, and golfing at Shadow Lake just to name a few.
I admire my Grandma for how she was so young at heart. I will never forget visiting her when she first moved over to The Legacy and she complained about why she was stuck there with all of these “old people” when the majority of them were younger than her. Grandma never let her age stop her from anything; even when she was 93 and using a walker, at the family picnic she would find a way to get in a few games of ladder golf or bocce with her great grandkids.
Thank you for being such a great Grandma. Love you and miss you. ~ Keith

I have so many fond memories of Grandma Rose and I will miss her dearly. It brings me comfort that she is in heaven and reunited with Grandpa Babe, her parents and so many loving brothers, sisters and family members. I’m sure that right now she is dressed in a casual gown to “go to the show” and playing a few songs on the keyboard before they leave home.
When Keith and I were first married we always enjoyed spending late Christmas Eve nights together enjoying appetizers and playing games as a family. Pictionary brought a lot of laughs and memories... I have one in particular…
In a match of girls (Me, Diane, Danielle, Rose) vs boys (Fred, Jeff, Keith, Babe, Wally) it was Grandma Rose’s turn. She drew what we determined was a car, but then she added a smiley face in the car window... and our (many) guesses were not correct. As much as Grandma pointed that dry erase marker at the smiley face in the car window our team didn’t guess the answer. The timer rang and Grandma Rose tells us, in an exasperated tone, “it’s Mario Andretti- don’t you see him? He’s right here!”
Thank you for the love and memories Grandma Rose. We will miss you and please watch over us. ~ Megan

I always enjoyed playing the keyboard for Grandma and showing her what I learned. It was fun to listen to her play her songs too. ~ Adelyn

Grandma was always so caring. ~ Danielle
-----------------------------------------
I will never forget all of the summer time fun at Grandma’s – The Price is Right, Grilled Cheese (they were the best), Swimming, playing cards and ice cream cones. ~ Jeff
------------------------------------------
Sleepovers, the movie theatre, popcorn, Sunday dinners, the pool, gin rummy, jarts, bocce, spring break in Datona, the plane trip to Silverlakes, neighbors, Christmas chorus concerts, stories of your childhood, the keyboard & roommates. Thank you. ~ Tony

I want to thank you for all of the wonderful memories I have of you and Grandpa. I loved spending my summers at your house in the pool. You would always get in the pool with us, swim your laps, and play basketball in the shallow end, with your one-handed shots that always seemed to go in. Every once in a while you would even go down the slide and get your hair wet. And when we needed a break from the pool, you were always willing to play games with us. You taught us how to play Gin, Canasta, and Rummicub to name a few. Playing as partners, Grandpa would always accuse you of Sandbagging when you went out on him and caught him with a bunch of points in his hand. And when it was time for my nap, you would always tuck me in, singing “How much is that doggy in the window” while playing your Ukulele. And after my nap, I would sit with you and watch General Hospital on TV...a habit that would continue into my college years. For years, you and Grandpa would come to our baseball games at the Little League Fields, either bringing your own popcorn, or going to the stand and getting a bag and a red hot, supporting us, cheering us on, being so proud of your grandsons. In the winter time, taking our photos in front of the cardboard fireplace in the basement at Christmas time, and everyone measuring their growth standing next to you, until we all eventually passed you. One of my favorite photos is the picture of you and Grandpa at April and my wedding. You and Grandpa showed us all the way, and we thank you for that. And most special to me is all the time we got to see “Grandma Rose” playing with my own Children. I am so thankful that Gabriella and Callen got a chance to know their Great-Grandmother. You lived a full, wonderful life, and now it is time for you to go be with Grandpa, I’m sure he has missed his Rosie. We will miss you Grandma…..~ Todd

I am grateful for the time we spent together. All the stories you shared and your private concerts with the keyboard. You will be greatly missed by me. I am comforted knowing you are at peace and with family. ~ Paddy

So many memories, but one I remember that shows how Grandma made everything special. The time when Kaylee, Jaycee and I went over to swim at her old town home with the community pool; for lunch she had little menus she made up with food options to choose from. That was Grandma. She always wanted to make every moment fun and
special. ~ Jadon

I think every child has had some sort of stuffed animal or blanket when they were little. Mine just happened to be a stuffed Mickey Mouse that has been through the ringer. When I was little, that Mickey Mouse would never leave my side, ever. It’s seen better days for sure, but Grandma, if it weren’t for you, that stuffed animal would be long gone. From the broken arm repairs to sewing his eyes back on, you have done it all. I will forever appreciate all the memories we shared over the last 25 years. ~ Anthony
--------------------------------------
Michael has joined the National Guard and has left for boot camp and has not been able to be reached. However, he and my Mom were very close from growing up living across the street. I know he probably has many memories, and I’m sure he sends his love…..

Mom - The greatest legacy you could leave us are these happy memories Thank you for being the best Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma any family could ask for. We will always love you and miss you. Your loving Family.

I will always remember cousin Rose. She was so talented and loved to play the organ. What a great talent! My mother always talked about her, Annie and Rose growing up and what fun they had. I also will never forget when she called me as I was sitting vigil at my mother’s bedside in the hospital. It meant so much to me. She will be missed but can now be with her “other” family. I’m sure they are all singing, dancing, and playing cards. You are in my prayers. Roseann and Allan James
