Darn it! I wish I could have talked to Tom before he left this earth. Tom lived upstairs from my boyfriend, also named Tom (Lowe) and me in Edwards Gardens apartments in Parsippany NJ. He was a chemist at Sandoz, and I was a secretary there, altho we never saw each other at work. We had neighbors Art and Caryll Sue Defrate, who lived nearby, and all 5 of us were good friends for several years. We used to go to Smiles for free horderves (spelled wrong), including Art and Caryll Sue's baby Louie. We took walks , including their dog. We watched "How the West Was Won" on tv over at Art & Caryll Sue's, and it was so funny. Art was serious about wanting to know how the west was won, but Tom Lowe kept making hilarious comments about things like the guy's poncho for one. So all of us kept giggling and laughing. Art tried to shush us, but finally gave up and laughed too.
Later we all moved, except Tom. We had dinner at Art & Caryll Sue's new home in Boonton. Art made the dinner, including a cold soup, which Tom didn't understand was supposed to be cold.
I remember Tom was fed up with Sandoz and got the new job in the midwest. Funny, cuz years after that I knew another chemist at Sandoz who echoed the same dismay with Sandoz that Tom had had.
I will never forget Tom Oglia. A kind man and a wonderful neighbor and friend. I just found out yesterday that Art Defrate, a veternarian, also died. He was 67 when he died in 2016 also in a hospital (in PA). The other Tom (Lowe) has also
left us, in 2016 same year as Art. I cherish those memories from the Edwards Gardens Apts. days. I loved our neighbors, and life was so fun with them. I hope so much that Tom found happiness after he moved to his new job. He was a good man. I am so thankful I knew him.
My condolences to his sister. I also just lost my brother too (June 1, 2020), and it is so sad to lose a brother with all those good memories in my case.
Sincerely, Lori Nagy of Hackettstown, NJ, June 25, 2020.
