Fr. Peter Nicosia, O.F.M. Cap., died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Tampa General Hospital. He was a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars, Province of the Sacred Stigmata of St. Francis. Fr. Peter was born on August 27, 1931 in Rochester, New York. He professed his vows as a Capuchin friar on July 29, 1951. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 14, 1959.
Fr. Peter is pre deceased by his parents, Tom and Angelina Nicosia, sister, Rose Mary Kalish and brother in law, Jim Panchyshyn. He is survived by his sister, Josephine Panchyshyn; Nieces and Nephews, Tom Panchyshyn, Barbara Jean (Mike) Venniro, Lorie Bond and Andrea Kalish; great niece and nephews, Michael and Daniel Venniro, Phillip and Christopher Bond, and Christina Rose.
Fr. Peter served in various capacities throughout his life. Most recently he served as pastor of Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Tampa. He also served on the staff of the Franciscan Center located in Tampa. Since May of 2012 Fr. Peter was a resident of St. Joseph's John Knox Village Med Center where he was lovingly cared for by all the staff.
A memorial mass will be held 11am SAT Sept. 28th at St. Kateri @ Christ the King Church. 445 Kings Hwy South Rochester, NY 14617.
