Obituary of Salvatore A. Alongi
Salvatore Alongi, 82, of La Quinta, CA and Penfield, NY, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, after a brief illness.
Sal was born on January 8, 1942, to Joseph and Mary (La Martina) Alongi in Rochester, NY. With a degree in chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, his career led him to Minnesota, Hawaii, and Southern California, which is where he made his home for 40 years cooking, entertaining, traveling, redecorating, and enjoying a strong cup of coffee or a glass of red wine. His family carries on his traditions (Christmas Eve specialties, beach vacations and jazz music) and his favorite recipes, including marinara sauce, almond paste cookies, a perfectly grilled steak, sourdough bread and cioppino, all served on warm dinner plates.
Sal was predeceased by his wife, Linda (Gjovaag) Alongi, his parents, and his siblings Josephine Manuse and Dennis Alongi. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Roger Manuse, nieces Renée (Ron) Dee, Lynnette (Bill Byrne) Manuse, Deana (Jeff) Darling, great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and dear friends, including Tracy and the wonderful staff and community at Penfield Place. They will all miss his abundant energy and infectious laugh.
No prior calling. On Saturday, February 24, 2024, all are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock in the morning at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 783 Hard Road, Webster, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penfield Place, Attn: Administrator (for Resident Activities), 1700 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY 14526.
