Mr. Woodside taught or tried in my case at least four out of five of our family. We truly appreciated his commitment to all of his students. I have a special memory of him when i was surprised to see him taking care of some squirrels at our neighbors house when I was a teen. Blessings, prayers and peace to him and his family. He touched so many as a teacher in Summit High School.

I was a student of Bill Woodside's in 1976 at Summit High School, Summit, NJ, where he taught from 1962 to 1993. It was a difficult time in my life and "Mr Woodside" was my favorite teacher. I want to tell you that his class so inspired me that I went on to earn a BS in biology and a doctorate in biological chemistry.
My mother told me that he once called our home to say what a fine student I was. I had forgotten this but my mother remembers how much joy it brought to the family.
I considered trying to contact him just last month. And then the news came.
He was a great man, a great teacher. Wildly eccentric in the classroom, he let me know that I could be eccentric too. Years later, I often felt his presence when I taught biology to college students.
I join you in your mourning and in the celebration of this soul's life. I will always be grateful to him for the gifts he gave me.

I knew George Woodside as an intelligent thoughtful member of our EHS Class of 1959. It Your sounds like how I would describe Bill if I knew him.
I also now know that Ruth Pickering McGregor was his sister - whom I have come to know through Facebook Member of the Woodside Family and another intelligent thoughtful person. RIP Bill.
