Obituary of Char Guess Bardques

Predeceased by her parents John Vincent Guess and Florence Odeline Guess; Survived by her daughters Melinda Thomas and Clenita Thomas; and grandchildren Jetaime Bardques, Aleman Bardques, and Darrick Dunham; and her sibling Vincent George Guess ; and cherished nieces and nephew. 

After a short and courageous battle with cancer, Char Guess Bardques passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023 at the age of 75 surrounded by her loving family. Char dedicated over 30 years of service in the field of Counseling at Fairport BOCES #1 and Monroe Community College. Her community outreach went as far as providing correctional counseling and crisis intervention to battered woman and rape victims. After retirement Char was a Board member at the Native American Cultural Center Inc., she passionately dedicated her time to volunteer with the Sister's of Saint Joseph, She served as an Advisor to the Pan African club, the Native American Cultural Society, and the Indigenous People's of America's at Monroe Community College. Char always showed great strength and buoyancy to whom ever she came in contact with. She went above and beyond to make sure that her students were provided with every resource they needed to succeed. She gave to those that were in need and she was known to treat people as if they were of her own family.  

Char earned her Bachelors degree in Sociology from the HBCU Wilberforce University and a Masters degree in  Mental Health Counseling at Brockport University. Char had a love for vacationing back to her roots at Martha's Vineyard, MA. Char was a seeker of truth and understanding which led her back to her indigenous origins. She also had a passion for Multicultural dancing. Most of all she enjoyed making memories with her grandchildren.
