My condolences to the family. This is heart breaking. I knew Gavin when he was a teenager and my family and I thought the world of him. Such a kind and just all around good person. Beautiful on the inside and beautiful on the outside as well. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Gavin, my first supervisor in military and the best one I could have asked for. You took a kid who had never been completely on his own before in a new environment and showed him how to work and most importantly how to act. From our first interaction I knew we both were very alike and I knew that you were someone I was lucky to have around me. You were always there for me when I needed you and I always strived to follow in your footsteps and I will continue to do as you taught me. I know I said it the last time we spoke in person but I owe a lot of the man I am today to you. Thank you again for everything.
Fly high, TSgt Weidel.

I postponed writing this because the thought of you really being gone was too much for me to fathom. The thought of me not being able to call or text you anymore is the biggest heartbreak of all. I’m so glad I got to spend a weekend in Greece with you. You will forever be my bestfriend. I love you more than you’ll ever know. Rest in eternal peace my boy.

I’m not sure where to start… I never was the type of person to have best friends or to click with someone so fast. You and I became like family and I will never take that for granted. It sucks to sit here and think I won’t see you again but I’ll always cherish the good laughs we shared while overseas. The amount of coffee we drank would fill an entire swimming pool twice. You are and will always be my brother. Love you dude.

Gavin, my right hand man. Words can not describe all of the memories that we have together. We met June of 2019 while we were on our way to the Middle East for a deployment. From the minute we met I don't think we ever had a dull moment. Rota Spain was one of the highlights of that deployment and man oh man did we have the time of our lives. I'll never stop telling stories of our trips together. I remember moving for you while you were deployed and setting up your new apartment for you so you had one less thing to worry about when you got home. I remember going to see our favorite comedian Theo Von together man. We laughed our asses off that night and had so much fun. Did you ever tell Mom about the time that we went golfing together and you totally sucked?! Im sure mom will hear all of these stories tomorrow and over the next week. I love you brotha. Hasta La Vista <3

Hello Carmen, this picture was just after Gavin and our team had just beat a Qatari soccer team in game 7 of a best of 7 series. The final game went to penalties. Gavin was the starting keeper throughout the entire series (but had very good foot skills so he played the field as well). He's a huge reason we won in penalties. The trophy was presented by a senior Qatari military official. I had the honor of serving with Gavin in the deployed environment and at MacDill....he's a legend

Gavin, oh Gavin where to begin.
I had just moved to Tampa when I met you and let’s just say you transformed my life. What started as a new friendship in the city quickly became the adventure of a lifetime. You showed me what a true gentleman was. You showed me how to love and be loved. You were a handsome, sweet, loving man with a huge heart and a dedicated man to his career. You never failed to put a smile on my face. You were a ray of sunshine lighting up everyone’s path along the way.
I have so many favorite memories with you but here’s a few that come to mind. I remember you teaching me about football at your favorite brunch spot, Soho Backyard, and getting absolutely roasted for not knowing who Tom Brady was (I know I know I’ve learned a lot since) to then going to our first NFL game to see him!
Another one celebrating my first Gasparilla in the city and meeting some of your friends and walking all the way back home from bay to bay boulevard (an hour walk!) in the cold crispy winter air and stopping by Tijuana Flats to get some flautas to warm up.
I remember we would listen to your podcasts and comedy specials in the mornings with a cup of coffee in hand. Then later seeing one of your favorite comedians in person, Theo Von, with Trey and Amaya and getting to meet him afterwards!! (and getting roasted by the rat king himself!)
I remember driving behind you on your Harley all the way to Daytona to experience bike week with your aunt and uncle.
To going to your hometown and sharing with me some of your childhood memories and hanging out at your mom and Tim’s favorite bar.
To doing nothing. Chilling at home playing cards, playing with Bambi and Peewee. To dancing in our pjs until our feet got tired to your favorite oldies.
The time we spent together is truly unforgettable and I will reminisce your memory until my last days. May you rest in peace and I hope that our souls reunite again some day Mr. Weidel.

I have trust issues and i was afraid of meeting new people...when you asked me to meet I rejected your invitation...but suddenly you went to the gym where i usually do for workout and did yoga with me even though you didn't know how to do yoga before...after that how come we opened up to each other you tell me about about your issues, about your childhood, show family photos and also how much you love and missed your brother. We are like people who have known each other for a long time, even though you have been in my city for couple weeks......I will never forget how sweet you were when tying up my loose shoelaces..when you about to left my city you repeatedly said that we would meet again and would save up for it.now every place in my city that we visited together reminds me of you. i miss you so badly
Thank you for coming into my life for a moment and changing my life for the better. you have left many moments in my life that I will never forget. You are the best man who has ever come into my life. no one replace you in my heart you have got special place.you gave me all my love language that i need.i love you i love you gavin may you rest in peace...you will happily in heaven...goodbye in a long sleep

Sweet, sweet Gavin. I’ll remember all the times he’s made me laugh. I am not military, but I’ve seen first hand how close knit these men and women are. I remember when I first heard stories about Gavin and Trey in Spain (that’s a story for another time). I remember the first time actually meeting him. He came to our apartment for a seafood boil and had no idea how to open a crab head or crawfish.
Gavin and I used to talk for hours on end about everything and nothing. He was my Taurus twin; great minds think alike. He always had some joke to crack or a smile to give or a shoulder to cry upon. I’ll never forget how he chose to protect me at Gasperilla when Trey was in Japan. I would try to go to the porta-potty by myself and he would say “Tiny Amaya, you’re not going alone. Let’s go.” And escort me to the bathroom.
He was truly a part of our family and many others. I will miss his beautiful, kind soul. I love you Gavin.

Gavin joined the military 6 months after me. He was a great friend to me at Macdill. It was our first duty station and we went through training at the same time. Gavin was always laughing and cracking jokes. He always knew how to make me smile. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He was very devoted to his job and strived for greatness. I admired him for that. I will forever cherish the memories we made, the inside jokes we had, the memes we would send each other and the laughs we shared. You were always someone I could talk to and I will forever miss you bud.
He had Thanksgiving with my family and I one year (Pictured)

I’ve never been more proud of a fellow Airman in my career. Weidel set the standard, led by example and will always be remembered as one of the hardest working and brightest Airman I’ve had the honor to serve alongside. During our deployment to Qatar together, I remember the nightly Dart games at the end of our shift, the Trips to the gold souqs and our deep conversations at the fox, which typically followed in us having an even deeper conversation on whether or not we should stop for some Al Udeid Pizza Hut.
Following that deployment together Weidel and I kept in touch and I’ve considered him a little brother. I’m so thankful for the phone conversation and the text messages.
I promise I’ll always share our stories and keep your memory alive.

Gavin Oskar Weidel quite literally lit up every room he walked in. Always had a smile on his face always in a good mood. So funny and quick witted. He was the definition of a true blue. There will be a whole in my heart with your name on it for the rest of my life. I love you.
