Obituary of Maritza Maldonado

It is with great sadness we announce that Maritza Maldonado Gonzalez, 62, of Rochester, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. 

Maritza Ivette Maldonado was born on June 21, 1960 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to Gilberto Maldonado and Noelia Rivera. She is the sister of Angel Ayala, Lizsandra Maldonado Feliciano, and Jeannette Maldonado. Maritza relocated to NYC as a young child and resided in Spanish Harlem “El Barrio”. She gave birth to her only child, Sasha Esteriany on October 2, 1978. Together, they relocated to Rochester, NY in the late 1980’s. 

Maritza went on to study at Eastman School of Dentistry to become a dental assistant. She enjoyed a successful career as a dental assistant for 35 years. Maritza met her best friend and life partner, Steve Gonzalez in 2005. After years of commitment and love, they were married on April 24, 2019. 

Maritza is predeceased by her loving brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Feliciano and Brother, Gilberto Maldonado Jr. She is survived by her mother, Noelia Rivera; Father, Gilberto Maldonado, husband, Steve Gonzalez; Daughter, Sasha Esteriany: Stepson, Steven Mannella; Brother, Angel (Maria) Ayala; Sister, Lizsandra Maldonado Feliciano; Sister, Jeannette (Carmelo) Maldonado; Nephews, Anthony Feliciano, Marco Feliciano, Cristian Ayala and Angel Ayala Jr.; Nieces, Delia Ayala, Stephanie Cameron, Jennifer Cameron, Nicole Cameron, Mariah Maldonado and a host of cousins, relatives and many friends. 

Maritza will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
