Barb & I did not know Lew for a very long time. Before we became his neighbor, the realtor mentioned his name. And that was the start of a great friendship. There are few people in this world you can learn about by seeing their deeds. Lew was one of those special people. I quickly learned how he built this house then that house then another house, and looking at the quality of the endeavors. I was yearning to meet him right away. It happened quite by accident as I met him while he was mowing the lawn. I had some high expectations, thinking when we met we would have a long chat. However as we met I realized Lew was sort of the Grandfather of Penfield and certainly the authority when talking about my new neighborhood. Quickly I learned he was a retired cop, a sign painter, house builder, developer, Husband, Father, Grandfather and a few other honors too numerous to mention. If you ever got the feeling you knew someone by viewing their deeds this is the feeling I got when I first met Lew. The long chat I envisioned never really took place because his reputation preceded him for sure and I felt quite comfortable with the "I already know him feeling he instilled". As I watched the past few years I learned what I already knew Lew was a hardworking man willing to work hard so others could see his efforts. Barb and I only learned of Lew's passing today and I was sad that we were unable to attend his services. So as I write this story I hope all his family and friends realizes that Lew was the type of guy whose character preceded him. I am sure he is on his way to heaven and I am sure that all the people in heaven will have the same experience as I when I say "stand back and marvel" you already know this worthy man - his reputation precedes him.

Throughout the years there were many stories that come to mind. I just want to share the highlighted memories that mean so much to me. There was the skunk story when my dad and Louie helped to chase a hibernating skunk out of a neighbor's garage "The Belvista Days"; there was the disco-dance story where Lori and I were at a wedding and Louie did the hustle with both of us, the sign shop engraving Louie taught me, The Aunt Jennie's story for Pasta Al'Olio with broccoli; being the Elvis fan that I am, OF COURSE, the Elvis bodyguarding story tops the list, but the one that hits home was from my 25th. My father was not in attendance at my 25th ceremony/party and it was Louie (my surrogate dad) who started the traditional family dance circle around me and my spouse. Without missing a beat Louie stood right up, said to the table, "Come on!" and everyone followed suit. This will always be one of my most cherished this memory.I am so glad that moment is on tape.
