Jim: We always loved life. And our experiences. If in the air or on the ground. I will swim in the water and kick!!! My garden will be full of flowers and trees. And they will come back every year. I will hear a plane and I look up with a smile. Let's do a loop and do a shandel. I will not cry anymore. I will go forward with our children...Look over us..Love Ann

I remember first meeting Jim when he was assigned the desk in front of mine in the study hall of Allendale School. We were in the ninth grade. It was the beginning of a fifty-year friendship. Together Jim and I went through high school, the army, and adventures in New York City, Ipswich and Rochester. I remember fondly our classes with Tony Partigan, going on college tours, driving five-ton olive drab dump trucks, and long talks over beer about girlfriends and politics, as well as a surprise 4:00 am visit to his dorm room at Columbia. We saw each other over the years at our weddings, at funerals, at good times and bad. Jim’s favorite army commander, Col. Frankel, who, when he worried that Jim was about to miss too many reserve drills, once waved his arm toward all of New York City and commanded me to go out there and “Find Rizzo!” (I did.) Marion and I and old friends, Derek and Arlene Vanderlinde, last saw Jim over dinner on August 13. It was a happy evening, for him and for us, and that moment I shall remember most. Marion joins me in sending our deepest condolences to Tera, Emery, and his family, Allen Swan

Dear Rizzo Family, We know Jim through association at the Finger Lakes Soaring Club. He was a good friend, excellent instructor, FAA Designated Pilot Examiner, President and past Vice President of FLSC. He was the spark plug of our club and an inspiration to many of his students. Jim related to the young Junior Members and was and inspiraton to many of them becoming pilots. Jim was an ever patient instructor to many of the more senior club members who started soaring as adults. He gave so much of himself to the sport of soaring and to the Finger Lakes Soaring Club. We will miss his ready smile, sense of humor and willingness to give one more lesson and explain how to improve as a pilot. I as an individual, and the club, will miss him because he was such a big part of our flying life. May he soar high and fly long. We will never forget you Jim Rizzo!

Dear Family, We cannot visit with you at calling hours, but we will be at the service. As you may remember, Jim and I go back to Allendale School and Columbia College. Just two weeks before the accident, Jim and my wife and I and the Allen Swans had a wonderful "catch up" dinner together. I am so sorry for your loss. Jim has been a part of my life for the past 50 years--a kind, gentle soul with an ever present, ready laugh. Many years ago, I went soaring with Jim--what a treat! I will miss the pleasure of his company. Derek
