Sammy my friend, my friend, I am saddened in one way and joyous in another. As one of your oldest friends may God Bless You. My memories are always what will be thought of, and I can say that as your friend I have nothing but great memories since our childhood. You have always been in the top of the list of great friends that I grew up with. We had many good times at your fathers bar. May God Bless all your family and friends for you will surely be missed. I am joyous now that you are at home with the Lord. God Bless Charlie Scanio, AKA Charlie Brown

Recently I was given a card with a special story that reminded me of Uncle Sam. It is an inspiring story of a boy who was seen throwing star fish into the ocean, but what makes it so inconceivable is that the shoreline was covered in them because they had washed ashore due to low tide. The man who witnessed the boy approached him and asked him why he was doing what he was doing, and the boy replied that the starfish would die because of lack of oxygen so he had to get them back into the water. The man was puzzled, and said "I understand. But there must be thousands of starfish on this beach and you can't possibly get to all of them here let alone this must be happening all up and down this coast, you can't possibly make a difference!" The boy smiled, then bent down and picked up yet another starfish and threw it back into the water and replied, "Made a difference to that one." And that is what Uncle Sam did not only to me personally, but to all of the people who were blessed to have known him…he made a difference in all of our lives.
His infectious smile and jovial demeanor made him respected by so many. He was a man who was blessed immeasurably with an enormous family of loved ones and close friends who all have our own stories and memories to remember him by. Being comforted by his gentle soul was always an enriching experience and never could one walk away without internalizing and taking what words he spoke to heart. He made you think, always putting things into perspective, even during trying times.
Our lives here on earth will be missing something so significant because of our loss, but our responsibility to him, out of respect as being those he loved, is to honor and his beliefs, courage, generosity, faith, and wisdom that is already seen in his beautiful daughters, his beloved wife, and close friends and family.
I am going to miss him immensely; he was all I had left of my grandmother. His facial expressions and the things he said brought her back to life for me and so to Marissa, Jessica, and Sarabeth, you will be my special reminders of her and now your father…always.
All my love,
Bethany

Big Uncle Sam, I will miss you more than I can describe with words. You were a great man with huge heart. You loved everyone unconditionally. I'll always remember all the little lessons you taught me. I'll miss your constant greeting, "Hey Ang. How you doin'? You bein' good?" I will carry your voice in my heart always. All My Love, Ang And now, a song for you: So many times I've questioned certain circumstances Or things I could not understand Many times in trials, weakness blurs my vision And my frustration gets so out of hand Its then I am reminded I've never been forsaken I've never had to stand the test alone As I look at all the victories The spirit rises up in me And it’s through the fire my weakness is made strong He never promised that the cross would not get heavy And the hill would not be hard to climb He never offered our victories without fighting But He said help would always come in time Just remember when you’re standing in the valley of decision And the adversary says give in Just hold on, our Lord will show up And He will take you through the fire again I know within myself that I would surely perish But if I trust the hand of God, He'll shield the flames again, again
