December 17, 2010.
Frederick "Fred" Charles Raaflaub of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with diabetes and kidney disease. He was born June 23, 1939, in Syracuse, NY, to the late Frederick E. and Helen (Mauer) Raaflaub. Predeceased by his sister Linda Cornue of Villa Park, CA.
Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Marcia Zdan Raaflaub; children Amy (Peter) Ashe; Kristen (Barry) Dumbauld both of Rochester, NY; and Scott Raaflaub of Summerlin, NV; and his beloved grandchildren Shane, Lindsey, Morgan, Alexandra, and Abigail.
Fred graduated in 1964 from Tri-State University in Angola, IN, with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1967 he co-founded Upstate Technical Equipment Company where he remained until his retirement. In healthier times, Fred was a member of the Eagles Falls Hunting Fishing and Trapping Club and enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the Adirondacks. He especially loved riding motorcycles in the woods near Number Four with his son and grandson. Fred got his pilot's license during college and loved the freedom of flying his plane. He also spent many summers restoring his boat, Concinnity, which he sailed on Lake Ontario. In recent years he cherished spending time at home with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
