Nancy Hammond Basch, 73, passed away after a short illness on July 26, 2026.
Born on September 4, 1952, in Syracuse, New York, Nancy spent her childhood on the shores of DeRuyter Lake, where she developed a lifelong love of music, family, and the outdoors.
She later made Rochester her home, where she lived for the majority of her life and built lasting friendships while raising her family and pursuing the many passions that defined her.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Rodney and Jayne Marshall Hammond, and her brother, Rod (Jill) Hammond.
She is survived by her loving son, Michael (Alison) Basch; her cherished grandchildren, Emme and Anabelle Basch; her siblings, Sherry (Rob) Rogers, Jan Hammond (Raghavan) Parthasarthy, Barbara (Thomas) Denslow, Rhonda Hammond, and Scott Hammond; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Nancy lived a life filled with creativity, adventure, and above all, kindness. A gifted singer, songwriter, musician, and entrepreneur, she shared her talents generously throughout her life. During her early career as a professional performer, Nancy achieved success with songs that reached the national country music charts and received regular airplay on Central New York radio stations. Her musical gifts extended beyond the stage; she wrote and performed the memorable Cole Muffler jingle, a tune that became instantly recognizable throughout New York State. She also found great joy in nurturing young performers by writing and directing numerous musicals for children's choirs, inspiring generations of young singers through her creativity, fostering the love of music for so many.
Music remained one of Nancy's greatest passions throughout her life. Even in her later years, she continued to write and play the piano and guitar, filling family gatherings with song and creating treasured memories with those she loved.
In the early 1990s, Nancy turned another passion into a successful business by founding Lady Jayne, a thriving charm earrings company lovingly named after her mother. Through her jewelry business, she built a beautiful life that allowed her to travel extensively across the country, creating logos for national non-profit organizations, while meeting people from all walks of life and forming countless lasting friendships.
Nancy embraced every day with energy and enthusiasm. She was always on the go, eager for her next adventure or visit with loved ones. She never forgot a birthday, always made family and friends feel remembered, celebrated, and deeply loved. Her generous heart, adventurous spirit, sparkling personality, and unwavering kindness left an enduring impression on everyone fortunate enough to catch her smile. Her legacy will live on through the music she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared so freely.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Falvo Funeral Home, 1295 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road, Webster, NY 14580. Interment will be private.
